Join your Forum friends Friday evening and Saturday, June 10 and 11, as we return to Gettysburg, PA, for GlideFest 2011. GlideFest 2008 was held in Gettysburg and we enjoyed it so much that we've decided to do it all over again in 2011!   For the Civil War buffs, in addition to the Gettysburg battlefield, the area offers several other historic battlefields from the Civil War including Harper’s Ferry, Antietam, Monocracy, Sharpsburg, and Manassas.   HOST MOTEL Our host motel is the Americas Best Value Inn (717) 334-1188 located at 301 Steinwehr Ave, Gettysburg, PA.   Link: click for the hotel   We've reserved all 17 rooms on the ground floor at the back. Second floor rooms are a bit cheaper, but the ground floor rooms at the back of the motel offer the advantage of a large covered parking area immediately outside the room. Also, this covered parking area provides a great gathering spot.   The rooms are blocked until Monday, May 9, for GlideFest. After that, any vacant rooms will be released. Check-in time is 4:00 PM on the 10th and check out is 11:00 AM on the 12th.   Our group rate is $ 107/night (including tax) for a single and $ 112/night (including tax) for a double). The motel has a 48 hour cancellation policy, so don't wait, reserve your room NOW !!!   Don't forget to tell them you're with GlideFest and provide our confirmation number - GE060911 - when you make your reservation.   The group rate includes a continental breakfast. Also, should you decide to arrive a day or two early, the motel will extend the group rate for a couple of extra nights on the front end, as long as they have rooms available.   If you've attended GlideFest in the past, you know what to expect and this gives you an opportunity to renew old friendships and meet new friends. If you haven't attended GlideFest in the past, you've missed the fun and camaraderie of meeting and riding with others who share your interests and with whom you've probably traded posts on the Forum - so plan to join us this year.   ACTIVITIES   Our traditional meet-and-greet Friday evening will start around 6:00 pm at the motel; out back under the covered parking. We have dinner reservations at 7:00 pm at the General Pickett Buffet; just a short walk from the motel.   After dinner, we'll walk back to the motel and go until whenever, as we mingle, swap jokes, and tell tall tales (all true, of course).   Saturday morning, we'll meet in the parking lot around 8:30 am. Kickstands up around 9:15 am for our group day ride.   The ride passes along part of the battlefield, includes three covered bridges, and follows scenic back roads - No Interstates! During the ride, if you see any black Suburbans, keep in mind that we will be riding near Camp David.   The ride will be about 150 miles. We'll stop along the way for lunch, two covered bridges, fuel, and pictures. At some point along the route, we'll get together for a group picture.   We should return to Gettysburg around 5:00 pm, or so. We have reservations at the Dobbin House, which is within walking distance, for dinner at 7:00 pm.   The Dobbin House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It's a wonderful colonial tavern and consistently earns the highest area rating in the Mobil Travel Guide.
